For days my devotions have all been about battle, war, enemies, fighting, anger and destruction. I have to say, I get a little disillusioned with all the defeat talk. I just don’t get it at times, especially when trying to wrap the mind around the fact that God is slow to anger, full of forgiveness for all. But there is also plenty of defeat in history because while we are loved, our weakness does not go unnoticed. However it is God’s to handle.
Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but Gods. March out, you will find them coming up but you will not even need to fight. Take your position then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. Believe in the Lord your God and you will be able to stand firm. The moment they began to sing, the armies started fighting among themselves. 2 Chronicles 1:13-22
Life can feel like an unfair alliance and the odds seem overwhelming. The minute we start to think we can handle our weaknesses on our own is precisely when he will show us how weak our bodies actually are without him.
So what is up with all the battle talk? For me it is definitely the needed reminder about the unconquerable character of God. We can’t attack it because it will never fail. The best part is that He chooses to teach about light, power and strength through common vessels like You and Me. For those who rely on Him though our bodies are weak, our strength is beyond measure and it can not be defeated.
